I grew up in Loveland in the 90s, just south of the booming and currently fourth-most-populous city in the state, Fort Collins. I was fully out at 16, and as a queer teenager and white, cis male with an upper-middle-class upbringing, my experience was, and is still, mostly comfortable and privileged.
There is even a quirky gay scene in Fort Collins, but like Dayton, Madison, Boulder, Des Moines, and other mid-sized cities in the United States, it is rather low-key, especially when compared to New York City or San Diego.
